What is better than a classroom lecture? Leaving the classroom to get out in the world. Hands-on learning leaves indelible footprints on scholars’ minds at Dixon School of the Arts.
What better way to extend our third-grade classroom’s teaching of Classification of Animals than to visit them at the zoo? Yes, our scholars got to explore the Gulf Breeze Zoo by classifying the animals into groups according to their
characteristics and habitat.
But the classroom teaching extension did not stop there. Other Dixon scholars, whose interests lie in the laboratory, were able to feed their scientific curiosity during a class field trip to the Pensacola Mess Hall. Here, they were able to build, create and operate small machines and circuits. The scholars are so grateful for opportunities to learn more about the world around us … by getting out in it!
