Our School

Dixon School of Arts and Sciences is a 501(c)(3) non-profit private school that uses the arts to inspire learning, creativity, and successful problem-solving. Students attending our school receive free education, transportation, and meals provided they apply for the Step Up for Students income-based scholarship. Dixon School of Arts and Sciences leverages engagement in the arts to teach traditional academic subjects with a creativity-rich, arts-integrated approach.

Arts-integrated curriculum propels children to participate more actively in their education, to remember what they learn, and to explore their creativity. We offer a dynamic Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) curriculum. Our mission is to promote a life-long love of learning in all our students. We emphasize off-site excursions and community partnerships to drive the academic experience.

We are a Title I school that emphasizes very small class sizes. With smaller class sizes, our teachers can more readily identify and meet all students’ individual learning needs. Our curriculum suits students with strong interest and/or talent in the arts, science, engineering, and technology. We combine an exemplary fine arts program with a rigorous Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) curriculum.

Who We Are

A. A. Dixon School of Excellence, a public charter school, was founded in 2008 by Pastor LuTimothy May. Pastor May would introduce his vision for creating a true community school to Kim and Julian MacQueen, whose backing and encouragement inspire the school to this day.

In 2012, the charter school’s vision was reimagined, paving the way for the establishment of Dixon School of Arts and Sciences, a private school under the leadership of retired school principals, Dr. Wendy Bennett, Ms. Modest McCorvey, and Ms. Linda Scott, with the primary support of Kim and Julian MacQueen, Innisfree Hotels, a collective of local Pensacola business leaders, and many willing community workers.

Because of the MacQueens’ ongoing support, the engagement of Innisfree Hotels’ employees, and the willingness of local Pensacola business leaders to support our school’s unique initiatives, Dixon School of Arts and Sciences offers students an experience that expands the boundaries of traditional public schools.

We encourage our scholars to aspire to attain post-secondary education and/or vocational training and assume meaningful, productive positions in the global workforce.

Our Motto

Each child’s potential is like a pinwheel. By exposing the blades of each student’s metaphorical pinwheels to positive physical, mental, academic, and spiritual stimulation, we produce beautiful and unique results.
